Our Mission

Founded in 1924, the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Houston SPCA) is Houston's first and largest animal welfare agency. Our mission is to promote commitment to and respect for all animals and free them from suffering, abuse, and exploitation. We help over 40,000 animals each year through a comprehensive array of programs and services: adoptions, foster care, rehoming, veterinary care, wildlife rehabilitation, animal cruelty investigation, 24-hour injured animal ambulance, disaster/emergency response, Pet Safe (temporary housing for the animals of domestic abuse survivors staying in shelters), humane education, Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine partnership, and much more. The Houston SPCA is unique to the country: we are the only animal welfare organization able to care for all animals ? companion, farm, equine, wild, and exotic ? on a single campus. In 2019, we completed construction of our new campus, increasing our ability to save and care for more animals than ever before.

Our mission is to improve and protect the lives of animals in our community and to alleviate their suffering and abuse.
